Dennis D. Senner, 62, of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of West Union, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. The Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiated. Barbara Temple was the organist.

Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by West Union American Legion Post 15. Casket bearers were Ron Senner, Dean Brockway, Kevin Brockway, Rodney Senner, the Rev. Rick Senner and Larry Brockway.

Arrangements were handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.

Dennis Dean Senner, son of Raymond and Donna (Brockway) Senner, was born Jan. 4, 1947, in West Union.

After his graduation from North High School in West Union, Dennis served his country with the United States Army for four years during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Dennis moved to Hiawatha, where he was employed with Quaker Oats for 30 years.

On June 25, 1989, Dennis was united in marriage with Cindy Leuchtenmacher at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. They became the parents of three children.

Dennis enjoyed being with friends and family members, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and Iowa Hawkeye football.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Donna Senner, and his grandparents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy, of Hiawatha; two daughters, Heather (Steve) Van De Walker of Oelwein and Carisa Senner of Cedar Rapids; a son, Chad (Shelly) Taylor of Strawberry Point; four grandchildren, Dayna and Hayli Van De Walker and Cameron and Carter Taylor.

Additional survivors include his father, Raymond Senner of West Union; two brothers, Kenneth (Janice) Senner of West Union and Randy (Ginny) Senner of Atlanta, Ga.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
