Jeleen M. Bilden, 89, of Clermont, Iowa, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Donald Berg officiated.

Burial was in East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeleen's grandsons Jeffrey Hoeg, Brian Hoeg, Kevin Marten, Casey Bilden, Tony Bilden, Andy Bilden, Spenser Bilden, Christopher Taylor, and Kyle Marolf. Honorary pallbearers were Nicholas Bilden and Alex Bilden.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, was in charge of arrangements.

Jeleen Marie (Morch) Bilden was born Oct. 4, 1919, to Asbjorn and Senda (Gericke) Morch on the family farm in Franklin Township, where she later attended Cherry Valley School.

On May 21, 1940, Jeleen married Millard C. Bilden at Postville Lutheran Church. The Bildens lived on a farm near Gunder, where they grew corn, oats, hay, beans and some Borlaug Wheat. Jeleen helped Millard with all aspects of farm life, raising dairy cattle, beef, pigs, and chickens.

They were active members of the National Farmers Organization and involved in politics.

Jeleen and Millard enjoyed visiting relatives in Norway and all across the United States. Jeleen especially enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading, cooking, crocheting, playing cards, and supporting all the children's church, 4-H, and school activities.

A longtime active member of East Clermont Lutheran Church, Jeleen served at many church events, quilted for Lutheran World Relief, and was president of the Ladies Aid.

In 1980, Millard and Jeleen retired and moved to their new home in Clermont, where Jeleen served as chairman of the Golden Age Club for 13 years and was a member of the Clermont Historical Society.

After Millard's death, Jeleen became an avid television sports fan and enjoyed greeting people from her picture window.

She was a devoted mother, hosting the many large gatherings that included the families of the Bildens' eight children, 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters.

Jeleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Millard, in 1998; a sister, Rose Foels; a brother, Leo Morch; and a daughter-in-law, Gayle Bilden.

Survivors include her eight children, Sandra (Jim) Hoeg of Decorah, Diann (Greg) Marten of Decorah, Peter (Wanda) of Cedar Rapids, Dale (Cindy) Bilden of Clermont, Jane Taylor of Waukesha, Wis., Don (Holly) Bilden of Vancouver, Wash., Dean (Nan) of Spring, Texas, and Zelda Marolf of Moline, Ill.

Additional survivors include grandchildren Jeffrey (Kari) Kunze-Hoeg of Eagan, Minn., Brian (Yvette) Hoeg of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Kevin (Brandi) Marten of Cold Spring, Minn., Jennifer (Daniel) Prath of St. Charles, Ill., Casey (Dawn) Bilden of Cedar Rapids, Lacey (Craig) Bjorseth of Ames, Kaylee (Gary) Bilden of Cedar Rapids, Tina (Todd) VanDenHul and Gail (Herb) Doudney, both of Oelwein, Tammy (Blake) Hackmann of Clermont, Tony Bilden of Lombard, Ill., Andrew Bilden and Spenser Bilden, both of Clermont, Christopher (Mary) Taylor of Kennesaw, Ga., Dawn, Karla, and Audrey Bilden of Vancouver, Wash., Nicholas (Darlene) Bilden of Naples, Italy, Alex Bilden of Huntsville, Texas, Wendi (Gabe) Marolf and Kyle (Brandy) Marolf, both of Moline, Ill.
