Funeral services for Viola I. Alderson, 84, of Wadena, Iowa, were held Monday, May 4, at Wadena Presbyterian Church, Wadena. The Rev. Alan Crandall officiated.

Interment will take place at a later date.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

Viola died of age-related causes on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union.

Born Jan. 1, 1925, in Monona to Clarence and Emma Bernhard. Viola Irene (Bernhard) Alderson graduated from Monona High School in 1943.

On May 18, 1946, she married George "Bud" Alderson at the Methodist Church in Monona. Four children were born to this union.

Bud and Viola were lifelong residents of Wadena. Viola worked with her husband in the O&W Auction Market in Wadena for 20 years. She was also the postmistress in Wadena for many years.

Viola was active in Wadena Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bud; a son, Randy; four brothers; three sisters; and an infant grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Olson of Madison, Wis., and Janet (Mike) Cosgrove of Lake Worth, Fla.; a son, Jeff (Linda) Alderson of Wadena; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen (Andy) Wold of Monona and Bev (Bill) Mazuk of LaCrosse, Wis.
