Leola E. Lerch, 80, of Elgin, Iowa, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 29, at First Baptist Church in Elgin. The Rev. Lee Boleyn officiated.

Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Leola Ellen (Hicks) Lerch was born Feb. 17, 1929, in rural Arlington to Giles and Nettie (Page) Hicks.

She attended Arlington High School.

On July 15, 1951, Leola was united in marriage with William Lerch in rural Arlington. She was a homemaker.

Leola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Lerch, on Feb. 7, 1967; and a brother, Myron Hicks.

Survivors include her four children, Sharon Lerch of Elgin, Michael "Looch" (Julie) Lerch of Wadena, Wendy (Peter) Wolf of Dubuque, and Julie McCready of Elgin; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Arietta (Mick) Leonhart of South Dakota, Virginia Roete and Audrey Johnson, both of Oelwein.
