Lenferd Melvin Peterson

Lenferd Melvin Peterson, son of Chris and Mary (Severson) Peterson, was born October 24, 1906, at Ossian. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a youth. Lenferd graduated from West Union High School.

On July 24, 1937, he was united in marriage to Edna Hilgerson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West Union, and to this union were born two children. Lenferd lived in the West Union area most of his life except for a short period in Canada as a child. He was retired from farming.

Lenferd was a lifelong member of the St. Olaf Church and had served on many of the church committees. He was a great lover of the outdoors and fishing.

Lenferd died Thursday, July 12, 1990, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center at the age of 83. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers and a sister.

Lenferd is survived by his wife, Edna; one son and his wife, Kermit and Shirley, Charles City; one daughter and her husband, Shirley and Lawrence Kohls, Clermont; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 14, 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger McKinstry officiating. Helen Guyer was organist and Russell Guyer, soloist.

Pallbearers were Steven Peterson, Roger Peterson, Dennis Peterson, Terry Kohls, Brian Reierson, Brian Bond.

Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Arrangements were by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.
