James Martin

James Martin, of New Hampton, formerly of Clermont, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. He was 57.

A Funeral Mass was held Friday, Aug. 29, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont with Father Dale Rausch presiding. Special music was provided by Kathy Fassbinder, organist, and Deb Matt, soloist. The Lector was Robert Tillman. Casket bearers were Dee Jae Butikofer, Robbie Butikofer, Jayme Butikofer, and Dee J Dummermuth. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

James Edward Martin was born Dec. 17, 1950, in West Union, to Jorris Aloysis and Lucille Elizabeth (Kuepker) Martin. James was baptized in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont. He received the love and care of his parents in the family home for many years. In 1984, James moved into a nursing home in Independence. Later he became a resident of a nursing home in Fredericksburg and then moved to New Hampton.

Jimmy enjoyed watching TV, listening to music, setting up his dominos, and playing with marbles. He had a special interest in his etch-a-sketch and was adept at using the knobs to create a unique pattern on the screen. He liked to watch the trains as they passed by. He also liked his collection of stuffed animals. Jimmy's favorite snack was root beer and Fig Newtons. While living at home Jimmy had a collection of bottle caps, which brought him many hours of entertainment.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille; his paternal grandparents, Melvin and Mary Martin; and his maternal grandparents, Erwin and Elizabeth Kuepker.

He is survived by his father, Jorris Martin, Clermont; two sisters, Sharon Peterson, Blue River, Wis., and Sandra (Steve) Cummings, Elgin, and a brother, Steve (Bambi) Martin, Randalia; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dee J) Dummermuth, Elgin, Dee Jae (Karissa) Butikofer, West Union, Robbie (Toni) Butikofer, Tripoli, Jayme (Josh Schroeder) Butikofer, West Union, and Chantel (Nando) Perez, Postville; great-nieces and nephews, Angela and Andrea Dummermuth, Kennadi Butikofer, Riley and Presley Butikofer, Bryce Schroeder, Jayson Perez, and Nicole and Bethany Funk; an uncle, aunts, and many cousins.
