Helen Tatro

Helen Tatro, of Clermont, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was 91.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, with the Reverend Dwight Albers officiating. Special music was provided by Janet Helgerson, organist. Casket bearers were the grandchildren, Lynne Fuchs, Tamara Yauslin, Kevin Tatro, and Kyle Tatro. Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery in Clermont.

Helen Elsie (Pratt) Tatro was born Oct. 22, 1916, on a farm near Sumner, to Walter Vern (Sr.) and Margaret Ida (Traeger) Pratt. She was baptized in the Union Church near Westgate, and confirmed in the Bethal Presbyterian Church in West Union. Helen attended schools near her home, including Readlyn, Willow Springs, Mo., West Union and Algona. She graduated from the West Union High School.

On May 23, 1936, Helen was married to Clarence Leroy Tatro in the Presbyterian Manse at Galena, Ill. They lived in the northeast Iowa area, but spent most of their lives in Clermont. Helen enjoyed entertaining family and friends and liked to share the bounty of her garden with them as well. She also liked to read, crochet, play cards and games.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter (Sr.) and Margaret; two brothers, Virgil Pratt and Walter Pratt, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Michelle Anne Noggle.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Marilyn Noggle, Clermont, and a son, Ronald Walter (Elaine Ann) Tatro, Marion; four grandchildren, Lynne Fuchs and friend, Jim Ryder, Rochester, Minn., Tamara (Jerry) Yauslin, Clermont, Kevin Tatro, and friend, Vicki Castle, and children, Brett and Jenna, Carlisle, and Kyle (Amy) Tatro, Anamosa; eight great-grandchildren, James Nuehring, Andrew Knickerbocker, Rebecca Knickerbocker, Joshua Thompson, Jared Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Dakota Noggle, and Cherokee Noggle; a step-granddaughter, Kristine Harms, Ames; and a brother, Russell (Aileen) Pratt, Omaha, Neb.
