Anna Durscher

Anna Durscher, of West Union, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Stoney Brook Assisted Living in West Union. She was 88.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, with the Reverend David Grant officiating. Casket bearers were Alan Parker, Aaron Parker, Koru Kuhens, Brent O'Donnell, Mike Schroyer, Keith Parker, Reid Parker, and Jason Beidleman. Interment will be at God's Acres Cemetery in Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Helen (Yauslin) Durscher was born May 4, 1920, in Clermont, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Helen (Ostlie) Yauslin. She was baptized on June 4, 1920, in the West Clermont Lutheran Church and later confirmed. Anna graduated from Clermont High School in 1937.

In 1941, Anna was married to William Hitch. William died as the result of an automobile accident in 1957. In 1960, Anna was married to Wayne Durscher. She was employed as a secretary to the Superintendent at the North Fayette School in West Union for 28 years. She later worked at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union for ten years.

Anna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the North Country Club, and also a member of Iowa Retired School Personnel Association.

Anna was known as the "Lefse Lady." She loved cooking and crafts, and collecting cookbooks. Anna's enthusiasm was an inspiration to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by family and friends.
