DIED. — Monday morning at 7
o'clock, April 12, 1886, Peter Messerer,
aged 60 years. Funeral services
were held at the church near by on
Wednesday at 10 o'clock A. M., Rev.
J. Knoche officiating. The funeral
was very largely attended .
Mr. Messerer was in usual health
apparently, Sunday morning — doing
his customery chores and eating his
breakfast. By church time he fell a
little ill and remained at home, the
rest of the family going to church. In
the afternoon the doctor was sent for.
He suffered intensely during the
night, As nearly as we could learn
his death resulted from some rupture
connected with the bowels.
Peter Messerer was born in Bavaria,
Germany. Coming to America, he
first settled in Illinois. For the past
27 years he has resided where he died,
at his comfortable home in northern
Fremont Twp, Fayette Co, Ia. He
was an exemplary member of the German
Evangelical Church and his influence
in and out of the church was
strong for good, while he was public
spirited and kind as a citizen. He
will be much missed by the community,
and his death will be sadly and sincerely
regretted by all who know him.
He died in the full triumph of the
religion ho professed, reconciled to go,
He leaves a wife and eight children
to mourn his seemingly untimely death.
