Fiana Priscilla Messerer, nee
Moyer, was born at Providence Ridge,
Illinois, Jan. 1, 1881, a daughter
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Moyer, and passed
out of this life in Sumner, Iowa, Dec.
22, 1928 of pneumonia and heart
trouble. God called his handmaiden
from the midst of labor to reward.
As a little girl she came to Fremont
and Banks Townships Fayette
County, with her mother. Here she
grew up to womanhood. It was here
also where she became acquainted
with her now sorrowing husband,
John Messerer, with whom she was
united in the bonds of Holy Wedlock
March 20, 1883. To this union were
born three children, all living.
In her early life as a girl she
yielded herself to the Lord's call as
one of his disciples and joined our
Evangelical Church under the labors
of the sainted Rev. J. Knoche, in
1878, since which time she remained
a faithful and true follower and an
honored member. In the year 1910
she with her husband left the farm
and moved to Sumner where she at
once took an active part in the life
of the community, becoming a very
vital part in relieving the suffering
and heart ache of the unfortunates.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides
her deeply sorrowing husband,
John Messerer, three children: Peter
J. of Banks Township, Fayette County;
Lydia, wife of William Duhrkopf,
of Sumner; Edna, wife of Arthur
Reeck of West Union; also five grand
children and four sisters, viz: Mrs.
Sarah Lowry of Maynard; Mrs.
Malinda Dallenbach, of Sumner; Mrs.
Lizzie Crawford of Peotone, IL.; Mrs.
Lillie Tift, of Oelwein; one brother,
Aaron Moyer of Oelwein and one
half-brother, Neil Younker of Slater,
Missouri.
