YOUNKER, MOYER, MESSERER, TIFT

Ed. Younker, a former Banks township
boy, but of late of Joliet, Ill.,
and more recently a C. G. W. engineer,
with headquarters for himself,
wife, and two young children, at Council
Bluffs, laboring under a religious
zeal, got it into his head Sunday that
it was his duty to regulate and morally
renovate an amusement park in
connection with Manawa Lake, a few
miles from the city, and to this end
he heavily armed himself and made
dire threats against the managers of
the to him questionable amusements.
The police and guards exercised but
little tact, less judgment, and the
least bravery, and opened a fusilade
on the temporarily crazy man, and
shot him down dead in his tracks.
His remains were shipped to Joliet
Monday for burial. He was a half
brother of Aaron Moyer and Mrs. John
Messerer, of Banks township; also
Mrs. W. D. Tilt, of Oelwein. Mr.
Moyer and Mrs. Messerer left for Joliet
Monday afternoon to be present at
the last sad obsequies attending the
tragic end of their brother.
