C. L. TAYLOR --- OBITUARY

Charles Lewis Taylor was born near Rensselaer, Jasper Co., Ind., Oct. 8th, 1865, and died at his home 556 8th Street Southwest, Oelwein, Iowa, about 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, March 4. His parents were Doctor Silas Soul (sic) and Esther Kane (sic) Taylor. Into this home were born 4 sons, Frank, Edwin, Charles and Arthur. Of these only one, Edwin, now survives.

When Charles was two years old his parents came to Iowa and located on a farm northwest of Fayette and not long after this, his father died. When he was five years old his mother was also taken by death and the orphaned child was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Job Ashby pioneer residents of the Dunham's Grove vicinity where he received the care of a father and mother and remained until his twenty-first year, March 2, 1901 he was united in marriage to Mrs Agnes Whitbeck of West Union, Iowa and the new home was established on a farm near Albany, Iowa, where they resided five years. During his residence here he united with the M. E. church at Lima. In 1906 they moved to Randalia where they resided eleven years and in 1916 coming to Oelwein where they have since remained. Mr. Taylor has been an employee of the Chicago Great Western railway for 14 years.

Six children were born to this union of whom the following survive: Alma Eetta (sic) Bloom of Oelwein; Silas Le Roy of San Pedro, Calif.; Charles Lyle of Fort McDowell, Calif., and a step-son Arlo Whitbeck of Oelwein; Phyllis Viola and Leota and Leola twins, preceded him in death. He was popular with his fellow workmen, devoted to his family, honorable and upright in character, kindly and cheerful by nature and a true and loyal friend.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home 665 (sic) Eighth Street SW., and at two o'clock at Grace Methodist church. Burial was made near Randalia. --Con.
