Elizabeth Jane Donahoo, daughter
of Susan Margaret Shafer and Nathan
Morgan Donahoo was born
July 2, 1856 in Linn Co., near Lisbon,
where she lived until 12 years of age
when family moved to Hazleton and
later to Oelwein which has since been
her home.
On Nov. 9, 1873 she was united in
marriage to William Henry Reid at
Coytown and to this union nine
children were born, three having preceded
their mother in death, one at
infancy, Edith on Feb. 27, 1915 and
Ross who was killed in action in
Chateau Thierry July 19, 1918, being
the first boy to be killed in action
from Fayette county. The father
passed away on Feb. 16, 1920. Those
who are left to mourn are Jessie N.;
James F.; Levi L.; Mrs. Carl Smith and
Mrs. Ed Klug, all of Oelwein and
William H. of St. Joseph, MO; 18
grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren;
one sister Mrs. A. A. Allen of Oelwein;
one brother, L. N. Donahoo of Strawberry
Point.
Altho she has not been in best of health
her sickness was not thought serious.
On Friday evening, February 14th she
visited with her daughter and son
and seemed in good spirits. On Saturday
morning, Feb. 15th, she was
found by her son Lee, she having gone
to her Saviour sometime during the
night.
Funeral services were held at the Christian
church Tuesday at two o'clock and burial
was made at Woodlawn cemetery. —Oelwein Daily Register - 19 Feb 1930
