P. L. Champlin 1827-1890

CHAMPLIN, MILLER

The close of an earthly career so
conspicuous as that of P. L. Champlin,
calls forth the profoundest regret
of the entire community in which he
has figured prominently for so many
years, and the intelligence of his
death causes a shock which extends
far beyond the home circle. Although
known to be in a hopeless condition,
his final taking off is a painful surprise
to his wide circle of friends. He
died at 4 o'clock P. M., Wednesday,
May 14th, 1890, in his 63rd year.
Thus is terminated the life of a good
honorable and highly respected man.
Sometimes regarded as slightly eccentrical,
no man ever won a clearer
title than he to the reputation of an
honest, conscientious and scrupulous
person, and few have been more active
in the welfare of the community in
which he lived. His life was a model
in simplicity and purity, and an example
in its unselfish devotion to the
principles which lift humanity up to
a higher and holier plane of existence.
He was born in Madison county
N. Y. Dec. 7, 1827, and was married
Jan. 24, 1864 to Miss Phebe Miller.
Six children have been born to them,
only two remaining, Almon H., and
Carlton E., aged 23 and I8 respectively,
to share the affliction of his
death with the surviving parent. The
funeral will be held from the Presbyterian
church, Friday at 2 P. M.,
Services conducted by Rev. Orlip, of
West Union, and the remains will be
interred in Otsego cemetery
