John Ray McLachlan, son of John and Ann Ray McLachlan, was born near Woodville, Ontario, Canada on March 12 1856. His death occurred January 16, 1937 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 4 days. In the spring of 1870 he with his parents, came to Fayette county, and settled on a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Stanley. In 1882 they moved to Benton county, near Mt. Auburn, where he continued to reside until 1902, at which time he returned to Stanley, and has since then made his with his niece, Miss Effie Manning, whose thoughtful care for him made a real home, such as a devoted daughter might make for her father. While living in Benton county Mr. McLachlan became a member of the Pratt Creek United Presbyterian church near Mt. Auburn, and always retained that membership, but as long as health permitted he attended church services whereever he occasioned to be. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Margaret Davidson, of Stanwood; two brothers and three sisters having preceded him in death. He also leaves to mourn his loss two nieces, one nephew, many other relatives and a host of friends.
Burial was in Otsego cemetery west of Stanley.
