FORD, MOORE

Irving L. Ford, aged about 63
years, took his own life at his
humble home just north of the
cottages at the City Park. It is
thought he took his life just after
noon, his body being found about
five o'clock in the afternoon Saturday.
He had drank a portion of
a bottle of carbolic acid, the
remainder of the bottle still standing
on a table near his hand when found. He
then took a revolver
and shot himself through the head,
the revolver still being clutched in
his hand when the remains were
found.
Mr. Ford had been feeling ill for a few
days and had been to a physician's
office the night before the tragedy to
get some medicine.
About five o'clock when his neighbor,
Fred Moore noticed there
was no light in his cabin, made an
investigation to see how he was
getting along. On entering the
cabin he found the body with the
burned mouth and throat from the
acid and the wound from the revolver.
The case was at once reported
and the remains were taken
to the Hintz funeral Home. The
coroner is to be in the city this
afternoon and view the remains
and if necessary hold an inquest.
Mr. Ford has always been a
hardworking man and was upright
and honest. He has been without |
work now for some time, and this
together with the fact that his
health has been poor, evidently
unbalanced his mind leading him to
commit the rash act. He has never
married and has lived alone all
of his later years. He has a brother,
A. Ford, living south of town
near the county line, and a sister
living at Spokane, Wash. At one
time he had been in charge of the
city park and has been employed
at various jobs about the city
during the eight or nine years of his
residence in Oelwein.
The funeral will be held at the
Hintz funeral home Tuesday afternoon
at 2:30 and the body will
be taken to Littleton for burial
where his parents lie buried.
