Grant S. Brownell (1865-1919)

Grant Sherman Brownell, youngest son of William and Sarah Brownell, was born March 30, 1865 at Elk Grove, Lafayette county, Wisconsin.

Here he spent his boyhood days, coming with his parents to Iowa at the age of thirteen, locating on a farm near Stanley. He was married October 1, 1889 to Ada Manning. They made their home on the old homestead farm where he was engaged in farming for many years, afterwards retiring to Stanley for several years. In January 1915 they located in Oelwein which has been since their home and where he died March 31, 1919, aged 54 years and 1 day.

Besides his wife, he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Inez Day and Mrs. Ruth Eschen, both living near Stanley and Florence Frances and Dorothy, all at home to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. He also leaves four grandchildren, two brother, both residing in Oelwein. One sister, three half brothers and two half sisters have preceded him in death. He has many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his untimely passing.

Funeral services were held at the home on Thursday, April 3, Rev. Foote of Hazleton officiating. Relatives from Des Moines and Waterloo were present. Charles, Harold and Jess Brownell, nephews of the deceased and Arthur,
George and Elmer Sherrill, nephews of Mrs. Brownell bore his body to its last resting place and loving hands laid him tenderly to rest till the great day of resurrection. He was surrounded beautiful flowers, tokens of love. Interment was made at Woodlawn cemetery.
