Benjamin Shippy (1818-1899)

—Died, Benjaman Shippy, at the
age of 80 years, 10 months and 13
days, on Saturday, Jan. 21, 1899, and
was buried in the Oran cemetery on
Sunday. Mr. Shippy was born in
Ontario, Canada, on March 18. 1818,
and at the age of 24 he was married
to Miss Margeret Denton who died
after being married eight years. On
June 8th. 1853, in Elg in county
Ontario, Canada, he was married to Miss
Annis Henry who survives him. In
1858 they removed to the state of
Wisconsin, living there two years
when they moved to Iowa locating in
Oran township where he has resided
continuously until his death. At an
early age he became a member of the
Baptist church. In September 1864
he joined the reorganized Church of
Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints of
which faith he died a firm believer.
He leaves a wife, seven children, four
brothers and one sister. Mr. Shippy
was well known by everybody. He
was a good neighbor. The family
has the sympathy of the entire community.
It is quite a blow on Mrs.
Shippy as she is lying in bed having
broken one of her limbs a few weeks
ago. We hope she may soon recover.
