DELORIS VIOLET (Thompson) KAMAUS

Deloris Kamaus, the eleventh child of Albert and Helen (Bergan) Thompson, was born April 5, 1928 on the family farm near Clermont, Iowa. She was baptized on June 10, 1928 in the Halvor Bergan home, Gunder, Iowa. On May 13, 1943 Deloris confirmed her faith at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended the Clermont Public School through the 8th grade.

On August 3, 1945 Deloris was united in marriage to Lloyd Henry Kamaus at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. Together they moved to Sumner while Lloyd worked for Bowling Brothers. In 1948, they moved near Eldorado on a farm. In 1965 the couple moved to West Union. Deloris worked as a nurse's aide at the Good Samaritan Home until illnes forced her to quit. She started to clean homes for several West Union residents until her retirement. After Lloyd's death she resided in Independence for 2 years, moving back to West Union in 1989. She moved to the Palmer Apartments in May of 2002. Deloris enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, embroidering, playing cards and visiting with her many friends.

Deloris passed away April 7, 2003 at her home after a battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd on October 8, 1984; parents; 6 brothers; 3 sisters and a half-sister.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children and their spouses: Linda and Ronald Upton of Postville, James and Grace Kamaus of West Union, Dennis and Sandra Kamaus of Waverly, and Rhonda and Darrell Bullis of Sergeant Bluff; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister Lillian Thorson of Clermont and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Casketbearers were Robert and Les Thompson, Jerry Thorson, Joshua Bullis, Cody Kamaus, and Gary King. Honorary bearers were Becky Birdsell, Colleen Hilgerson, and Sherri King.

Interment was at West Union Cemetery.
