Services for Joseph Amundson were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 in East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, Iowa. Rev. Helen Beth Kuhens officiated. Burial was in East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery. Casketbearers were James Larson, John Amundson, Phil Metzger, Dale Armstrong, Lori Meyer, Ardel McCartney.

Joseph Milton Amundson died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, after a brief illness. He had reached the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 18 days. Joseph was born the son of Martin Helmer and Mabel Pernilla (Helgerson) Amundson on September 9, 1920 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Postville, Iowa.

Joe was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, where he was a life-time member. Even though he had minimal eyesight, Joe began classes in a country school near his home until he was eight years old, at which time he moved to Vinton, Iowa to attend the Iowa School for the Blind. Joe returned to the family farm in 1939, where he helped his father with the dairy operation and the field work. He had also been weaving rugs since 1947, which he sold in the community.

Joe became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville on June 5, 1988. During his lifetime, Joe used his knowledge of braille to read the Bible as well as other publications. He liked to eat Pizza and pie of any kind. He was a kind and helpful person as well.

Survivors include one sister, Arlene Bockoven of Sheridan, WY*; three brothers, Wayne (LaVon) Amundson and Roger (Lois) Amundson, all of Clermont; Victor (Karen) Amundson of Dubuque, Iowa; 15 nieces and nephews: Mark (Gail) Amundson, Julie (Phil) Metzger, Patricia (Gary) Pampuch; Ruth (Mike) Lewis, Beth Bockoven, William Bockoven,III, Paul (Beth) Bockoven; Larry (Rhonda) Amundson, Linda (John) Jackson; Susan (Dale) Armstrong, Sally (John) Light, Ardel (Ronald) McCartney, John (Heidi) Amundson; Kathy (Jack) Christensen, and Lori (David) Meyer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mabel, a brother, Norman Amundson, a sister-in-law, Clara Amundson, and a brother-in-law, William Bockoven II.

Arrangements were by Schutte Funeral & Cremation Service, Postville.

*The Postville paper has her from West Union.
