Wayne Amundson

Services for Wayne Amundson, 73, were Thursday, April 24, East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural, Clermont. The Rev. Helen Beth Kuhens officiated assisted by the Rev. Galen Kuhens. Special music was by Arthur Amundson. Casket Bearers were, James Larson, Lowell Lyngaas, John Amundson, Dale Rueber, Denis Monroe, Kim Dummermuth. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in
charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Wayne Nels Amundson was born August 22, 1929, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Postville, to Martin Helmer Amundson and Mabel Pernilla (Helgerson) Amundson. He died Monday, April 21, 2003 in the University of Iowa Hospitals at Iowa City.

He was baptized September 22, 1929 and confirmed November 12, 1944, at East Clermont, where he was a life-time member. He attended the rural school near his home and graduated from the Clermont High School in 1947. Wayne served in the United States Army from 1952-55.

December 16, 1959 he married Clara Louise Gibson at Hamlet, N.C. They lived on the Amundson family farm in Clayton County. Clara died June 10, 1994.
November 11, 2000 Wayne married to LaVon Marie (Koehler) Nelson in the Elgin Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, LaVon, a son, Larry Amundson (Rhonda) of Thief River Falls, Minn., and a daughter, Linda (John) Jackson of Yuma, Ariz., a step-daughter, Tina (Denis) Monroe of Clermont, three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two brothers, Roger (Lois) Amundson of Clermont and Victor (Karen) Amundson of Dubuque, a sister, Arlene Bockoven, of Sheridan, Wyo., a sister-in-law, Loretta Amundson of Elgin, his father- and mother-in-law, Sam and June Koehler of Arlington, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara, two brothers, Norman Amundson and Joe Amundson, and a brother-in-law, William Bockoven, II.

Wayne enjoyed farming the home farm until he retired in 1992. After retirement he developed a talent in wood carving and computer skills. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, always lending a helping hand. His faith and service to the Lord were an example to all those who knew and loved him.
