Jimmie Anderson

Services for Jimmie Anderson, 81, were October 16, at 2 p.m., West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Rev. Helen Beth Kuhens officiated. Special music was by Arthur Amundson, soloist and Kristin Fitzgerald, organist. Casketbearers were: Michael Jennings, Matthew Jennings, Brian Monroe, Steven Kittelson, Michael Miene, Henry Follett, and Honorary Casket Bearers were: Joshua Anderson, Jennifer Anderson, Jason Anderson, Clayton Anderson, Shane Monroe, Jesse Monroe, Travis Monroe. Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

James Oliver Anderson, the son of Gilbert Anderson and Lena (Johnson) Anderson, was born January 5, 1921, on the family farm west of Clermont. He died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. He was baptized and confirmed in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. He graduated from Clermont High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and served overseas during World War II, in the 98th Bomb Group.

June 3, 1950 he married Margaret Elizabeth Germann in the First Baptist Church at Elgin. He was a farmhand for a while, and then was employed at the Valley Co-op in Clermont.

Jimmy had a passion for airplanes and flying. He could often be found at the Clermont Airport. He also joined with friends to fly radio control model airplanes. He was a faithful member of the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post 375, of which he served as a commander, and never missed participating in or attending the Memorial Day ceremony in the Clermont park since returning from the war.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, who died May 25, 2002, sisters Gladys McClurkin, and Helen Kittelson, and a brother-in-law, Earl Kloster.

Surviving is a daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Jennings of Waterloo, a son, Jerry (Sarah) Anderson of Beaufort, SC; five grandchildren, and a great grandson, Clayton Anderson.

Also surviving are two sisters, Agnes Kloster of West Union, and Patricia (Paul) Miene of Postville, two brothers-in-law, Clarence "Toby" Kittelson of Clermont, and Walter (LaVon) Germann, Jr. of Postville, and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Lynn (Brian) Monroe of Postville.

Jimmy was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, the 98th Bomb Group Veterans Association, the Northeast Iowa Experimental Aircraft Association, and a former member of the Clermont Volunteer Fire Department.
