George W. Cheney was born in Oneida county, New York, February 3, 1834 and died at the home of his son Lester in Buchanan county on May 9, 1919. He came to Iowa in 1862. He was married to Mary F. Brown March 10, 1864. To this union five children were born; Amasa, William, Washington, now of Minnesota, Lester and Mrs. Ida Beck of Buchanan and Fred P. deceased. Mr. Cheney moved with his family to Nebraska in 1884, returning to Iowa in 1894. In 1887 he united with the Seventh Day Aventist church and remained in that church until his death. Mr. Cheney was a quiet inoffensive man. He lived to a ripe old age and passed on to his reward.

His funeral took place on Sabbath, the eleventh instant, and his remains were laid to rest beside the companion of his youth in the Otsego Cemetery there to await the final resurrection.
