Nick Fehring 1858-1939

Funeral services for Nick Fehring,
81, were held Thursday at
1:00 p. m. at the home and 1:30 p. m.
at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Waverly. Rev. R. C. Schleuter pastor,
officiated. Burial was made in
Fairbank Cemetery, beside a son, who
died at the age of 15.

Mr. Fehring died suddenly on Monday
afternoon, at 5:10. He had
been in ill health for nearly five
years, and had been almost blind,
for considerable portion of that
time. Monday, however, he seemed
bright than usual, and was up
and about the house until he was
stricken about 5 o'clock.

John Nicholas Fehring was born
May 26, 1858 in Hanover, Germany,
the son of Henry and Anna (Niebuhr)
Fehring. He was confirmed by Pastor
Kollman in Germany.

At the age of 19 years, he came to
America, locating on a farm near
Fairbank, Iowa. Here he was married
to Magdalena Mass in 1882, by Pastor
K. H. Machmueller. They continued to
make their home in this vicinity until
29 years ago, when they moved to
Waverly to reside. They have lived
there ever since, except for short
periods spend on the old home place.

Surviving him are the widow; three
daughters, and one son; Mrs. Emma
Zierjack and Mrs. Katherine Bergman
both of Fairbank; Anna at home and
Peter Fehring of Waverly. There are
also nine grandchildren and one great
grandchild. A son William died at
age 15.
