Hannah Melvina Housden 1860 - 1949

Hannah Melvina Housden was born in Iowa county, near Marengo March 6, 1860 and died September 23, 1949 at Wilmington, California at the age if 89 years, 6 months and 17 days.

When a little child she came with her parents to Fayette County and lived on a farm near Stanley. In 1903 she moved to Oelwein and remained there until 1922 when she moved to Wilmington.

In 1877 she married L. W. Brownell, who died in 1915. In 1923 she married D. S. Hillman who survives.

While in Oelwein she was aa member of the First Church of Christ and when she moved to California she transferred her membership to Wilmington.

Survivors include; her husband, D. S. Hillman, Wilmington; four children, Mrs. Mabel Colton, Wilmington; William H. and J. O. Brownell, Oelwein and Mrs. Nettie Preston, Wilmington; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Ola Rand, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and several nephews and nieces around Oelwein.

Funeral services were held at the Hintz funeral home September 29 at 2:30, in charge of Rev. L. W. Hauter, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. C. B. Hintz and Mrs. John Hamilton, accompanied by Mrs. L. E. Hilsabeck sang two hymns. Burial in Woodlawn.
