Irey William Rose

Funeral services were held for Irey W. Rose from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville at 1:15 and at 2:00 o'clock from Stavanger Lutheran Church south of Ossian on Saturday, December 4.

Services at the Schutte Funeral Home were conducted by Rev. V. A. Fiskerbeck of the Stavanger Church and by Rev. C. E. Witt of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Postville. Rev. Fiskerbeck conducted the services at Stavanger Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Irey William Rose, son of Herman and Minnie Koenig Rose, was born in Winneshiek county, Iowa on October 3, 1899; and after a prolonged illness, passed away at the Postville Community Hospital on December 1, 1954 at the age of 55 years, one month and 28 days. He was baptized in infancy by Rev. Buckelman, and on Easter Sunday in 1914 he was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Postville by the Rev. Kuhne. He attended the rural schools of Winneshiek county.

He was married to Mabel Kirkestue of Ossian and to them were born five sons. They chose farming as their life's work, living the greater part of the time near West Union and for the past year on their farm near Clermont.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; his mother, Mrs Minnie Rose Poesch of Postville; and five sons, LaVerne of Postville, Charles of West Union, Eugene and Irey, Jr. of Clermont and Bernard at home. He is also survived by his twin brother, Arbie, of Postville, five grandchildren, 11 nephews and nieces as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. He was an active member of Stavanger Lutheran Church at the time of his passing.
