Louie Reierson

Funeral services for Louie Oscar Reierson were held Monday, December 7 at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. Interment was in the Marion Lutheran Cemetery. Muehlethaler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Louis Oscar Reierson, son of Reier and Maren (Olson) Reierson was born September 12, 1884 at Gunder. He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church and received his education in the rural school district #5 of Marion Township.

He was united in marriage to Helen Elvina Wold at the Norway Lutheran Church on June 20, 1912. They had two children.

He was a lifelong member of the Marion Lutheran Church. He served on various committees such as the church board, Sunday School Superintendent, and the church choir. He also was active in his township and county serving on the Marion Township school board, boards of the Gunder Cheese Factory and the Farm Bureau. He also helped organize the Elgin Lutheran Church.

His occupation was farming. When he retired from the farm he purchased a home in Elgin which was their home until 1979 when they took residency at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville. His death occurred Friday, Dec. 4, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Home at the age of 103.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Cornelius [1971] and 2 sisters, Mary Wold and Mrs. Clarence (Ruth) Kirkeberg. His wife died just a year ago on December 11, 1986.

Survivors include his daughter Marjorie (Mrs. Harvey Paulsen), Elgin, and son Randolph, both of Elgin, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Brian Reierson, Roger Reed, Mervin Reierson, Brad Reierson, Mark Fasse and Carlyle Kirkeberg.
