The community was shocked and saddened Thursday morning to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary James at the home of her son Lloyd. Following is the obituary, Mary McMillan, daughter of Alexander and Catherine McMillan was born near Heatherton, Ontario, Canada, December 16, 1862 and departed this life on June 19, 1930 at the home of her son Lloyd, 4 miles northeast of Stanley, Iowa. Her parents were natives of Scotland and were pioneers of Iowa coming to Fayette county in 1855, where the deceased lived until thirteen years ago when she moved to Stanley, Iowa. On February 6, 1889 she was united in marriage to P. C. James who preceded her in death on May 12, 1911. Mrs. James is survived by six children, four daughters and two sons; Charles I. James, Mrs. Ethel Morgan, Lloyd L. James, Mrs. Belle Morgan, Mrs. Edith Zabriskie all living near Stanley, Iowa and Mrs. Ella Welch of Waterloo, Iowa, together with thirteen grandchildren and two brothers and four sisters, John McMillan of Independence, William McMillan of Estherville, Iowa, Mrs. Ullman of Dubuque, Iowa, Mrs. Kate Hood of Oakley, Kansas, Mrs. Flora Garret of Clay Center, Kansas and Mrs. Belle Spangler of Sebastopol, California. In early life Mrs. James united with the Stanley Union church and labored with steadfast service to her King until death called her home. Her sudden death is mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends. She was spending a few days in the home of her son Lloyd and family and was found in the morning that she had peacefully expired without waking. A true and devoted mother has gone to her reward. Funeral services were held in the Union church Sunday afternoon at two-thirty, Rev, Wray officiating. Six of Mrs. James nephews acted as pallbearers. They were, Kenneth, Donald and George McMillan, Deralle, Thal and Algy James. Interment was made in the Stanley cemetery.
