MRS. LEO (Leona Margeurite Lyngaas) SCHWEINEFUS GRIEBENOW

Leona Griebenow died March 2, 1990 at the Prairie Health Care Center, Prairie du Chien, WI where she had been a resident for the past six months.

Leona Margeurite (Lyngaas) Griebenow, daughter of Engebret and Anna (Olson) Lyngaas, was born Feb. 23, 1921 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 6, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. in West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont. The Rev. Donald Loots officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the God's Acre Cemetery, Clermont.

She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. She received her education by attending rural schools near her home and the Clermont High School, graduating in 1938.

She married Earlen Schweinefus who died in 1955.

On May 7, 1957 she married Leo Griebenow at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. They had a son, Leon Burton. Leo and Leona owned and operated their own grocery store for 16 years. Leo died August 15, 1973.

Leona worked as a guide at Montauk and was Clermont librarian for several years.

She was an active member of West Clermont Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Esther Circle and the Clermont Study Club where she was very active in the reading program.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, a brother Helmer Lyngaas, and two sisters, Alice Nygard and Thelma Tinderholt.

Survivors include her son, Leon, 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Gudrun (Mrs. Clifford Osmundson), Postville; Eleanor (Mrs. Vernon Anderson), Clermont; and a brother Ewald Lyngaas, Clermont.

Pallbearers were: Lowell Lyngaas, Alan Tinderholt, Merlin Chapman, Leon Dibble, Dennis Griebenow and William Torkelson.
