Miss Katherine Howard, known as one the best violinists the middle west, died last night at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Howard, 4112 Warwick Boulevard.

Miss Howard was born November 12, 1904, in Hawkeye,Iowa. When she was 6 years old, her parents moved to Wichita. There she was the youngest graduate of the Wichita College of music, being graduated when she was 13. In the same year, she won first place in the Kansas state violin contest and was awarded a scholarship in the Chicago College of Music where she was instructed by Leopold Auer. He considered her one of his best pupils.

Later Miss Howard went to New York and studied under the direction of Victor Kuzdo. When studying there in the winter of 1922, she suffered a severe attack of pneumonia. Her parents brought her to Kansas City in April, 1923.

Her recovery was slow. It was believed she soon would be able to resume her studies but she again developed pneumonia in December. Her death was the result of the second attack of pneumonia.

Miss Howard did concert work on the Orpheum Circuit and had declined several attractive offers.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, from the H.C. Bergman funeral home. The remains were placed in a receiving vault in Forest Hill cemeterey. Kansas City Post
