Christian Kolb was born August 30, 1829 in Obersetzen in the Prussian Province of Westphalia and came to this country at the age of 18 living on a farm in Cook County, Illinois. In 1855 he was married to Miss Katherine Becher and the following year they come to Iowa and settled on a farm southwest of Oelwein where they lived until they moved to town twenty years ago. Mr. Kolb had enjoyed excellent health until a few days before his death, which resulted from a severe cold. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, an honest upright Christian gentleman and the large attendance at his funeral testified to the esteem in which he was held by his friends and neighbors. Last services were held Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran church, Rev. F. Zimmerman officiated, interment in Oran cemetery. He leaves besides his wife six sons, Jacob, John Nicholas, Wilson Hubbard, Christian, Carl and Albert Kolb. His age was 80 years, 2 months and 10 days.
