Charles Dugan died at his home four miles east of the city March 17th, his funeral occurred from the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, Rev. James M. Wilson officiating. Interment in the Oelwein cemetery.

Charles Dugan was born in Dublin, Ireland, August 25, 1839, and was sixty-five years, six months and twenty-two days of age at the time of his death. Mr. Dugan had been ill for several months, and submitted to a surgical operation three months ago. This did not bring him the desired relief and gradually failing, he died Thursday. After coming to this country he resided with relatives in New York for several years. Nearly thirty years ago he came to Iowa, and resided on his farm near Oelwein up to the time of his death. November 22, 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucretia Sprague. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom with the wife survive him. He was a hard working, well to do farmer, and won the respect of his associates by his sturdy integrity. He was well known as one of the pioneers of this section.
