Elizabeth Bowser Heath (1847-1923)

Elizabeth Bowser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bowser, was born in Goshen, Indiana September 16, 1847. Here she spent her childhood and youth. In 1865 she was united in marriage to Charles E. Heath of Goshen, Indiana. One year later in 1866 she with her husband and one son came to Fayette County, Iowa and settled in Smithfield township, later moved to Oelwein where she has spent more than twenty five years.

To this union eleven children were born, one dying in infancy, Jessie in early childhood, George at the age of thirty, and Lizzie in February 1921. Seven children survive her; Davis E. Heath, Mary Jane Peeper, Frank Heath, J. K. Heath, all of Oelwein, Iowa; Cora McMillan of Estherville, Iowa; Hattie Meikel, Superior, Iowa and Dollie Conklin of Sinton, Texas.

There remains to mourn her loss, seven children, nineteen grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and one brother in Nebraska.

She was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Oelwein and remained in that faith until the angel of death called her to the great beyond May 12, 1923. She was also a charter member of the Womans Christian Temperance Union of Oelwein.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ by the pastor at two o'clock pm Tuesday, May 15, 1923. She was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
