Mary Elizabeth Derflinger was born November 6, 1862 in Scott township, Fayette County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. September 22, 1880, she was united in marriage with Charles T. Parker, of Smithfield township. For a short time they lived in Smithfield, thence, moved to their own home in Scott township where by perseverance and toil they acquired for themselves a pleasant and comfortable home.

Soon after her marriage she united with the Christian church at Brush Creek, now Arlington, and has ever since been a member.

About noon Sunday, July 14, 1912, she passed from this life to the life beyond, aged 49 years, 7 months and 8 days. For months she has been a great sufferer yet bore the pain with patience. As a wife she has been helpful and loving, as a mother kind and faithful. A woman of of kindly and sympathic nature she won many friends. In sickness and sorrow she stood with willing heart and helping hands to minister to the needy.

Besides her husband she leaves two sons and two grandchildren, Clarence M. who is the father of Leola and Clare, Glen D., her mother, Mrs. Mary Silig, one sister, Mrs.
Mattie Carnell and one brother, Arch Derflinger, all of whom have been with her to aid in tenderly caring for the suffering body. These we a host of relatives and friends will ever hold in sacred memory the life of the departed loved one.

The remains were laid to rest in the Union church cemetery near Aurora.
