DREYER, MARTENS, ANDREW

Mrs. Friederika Dreyer, nee Martens, was born February 20, 1852 in Prussia, Germany. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in early infancy and during her 14th year was confirmed in that church. About this time her father died, and as an older son of the family had come to America, the mother with five other children, of whom the deceased was the youngest, followed him. For a number of years she lived near Palestine, Illinois, then came with a sister to Fayette County and made her home near the place where the city of Oelwein was to be established. All the remainder of her life was spent near here.

On April 16, 1874 she was married to William Dreyer, who preceded her in death June 1, 1902, exactly thirty years before the date of her departure. Four children were born of their union. One daughter was taken in infancy. Two sons and one daughter survive her; Lorenz and William Dreyer of Oelwein and Mrs. Lena Andrew of Marion, Iowa with one grandchild.

With increasing age her physical powers diminished, causing her to remain mostly at home, although she was able to attend to the duties about the home. Last Friday afternoon she suffered a stroke which left her helpless. She was conscious and appreciative of the loving care that members of the family bestowed upon her. On Wednesday morning, June 1st, at 4:30 o'clock she departed this life, aged 80 years, 3 months and 11 days.

The funeral service for Mrs. Dreyer was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Lutheran Church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. H. Voelker. Interment was made in Oakdale cemetery.
