One of the most worthy veterans of Griffith Post, living in Oelwein for several years, died Monday morning about 4 am at the age of 71. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday at 3 pm, the Rev. James M. Wilson officiating.

Mr. Reese was born in Union county, Pennsylvania in 1831, and was consequently 71 years of age. He enlisted as a blacksmith in Co. B 15th Illinois volunteer infantry on the 24th day of May 1861, and served three years, being discharge from Co. B. at Springfield, Illinois on June 14, 1864.

He was married May 27, 1867 to Amanda Davis. Mr. Reese was buried in the Oelwein Cemetery under the auspices of Hebron Lodge A. F. & A. M., No 314 of which order he was an honored member.

His brother from Lena, Illinois came to attend the funeral services.
