W. C. Pond, a well known and prominent resident of this vicinity, died at Independence Wednesday and was buried in the Otsego cemetery Saturday, being followed to his last resting place by a long procession. He was born in Knox county, Ohio, March 17, 1834, and belonged to one of the early New England families, which during Colonial day was founded in this country by England emigrants.

On the 19th day of November, 1857, in Whiteside county, Illinois, Mr. Pond was united in marriage with Miss Priscilla Strong. The following children were born to them: Chancey A., of Scott township, Mrs. Cora A. Hoppes of Kansas, Mrs. Eva E. Hillman of Stanley, Mrs. Blanche A. Adler of Kansas, Jay E.. Earl, May F. and Dennis S.

In the fall of 1873 he came to Iowa and purchased land in Scott township on which he removed his family the following year. His influence went toward moulding the high moral sentiment of Scott township. He was a loving, unselfish, sympathic husband and father. He had a wide circle of friends who sympathize with those who are left to mourn.
