Ann Walker Richards was born at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1820 and was united in marriage to James Bane at Portland, Ohio on February 22, 1843. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N. H. Spears at Westgate. Iowa, September 24, 1909 aged eighty-nine years, four months and five days. She was reared in the Society of Friends or Quakers.

She is survived by Mrs. Anna Spears of Westgate, John R. Bane of Oelwein, Isaac W. Bane of Des Moines, and Mrs. Donna I. Emmons, child of Mary E. Sayles who died in March 1889.

In 1864 she and her husband came to Iowa and settled on land in Fremont township, Fayette county, which he had entered from the government in 1855.

Mr. Bane died in 1873. Since his death Mrs. Bane has resided for most of the time, with the exception of a year or so, in the same township. In her strength, it could truly be said of her as spoken in Proverbs; "she looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise to call her blessed".
