Amanda E. Davis Rees (1852-1922)

Amanda Elizabeth Davis was born June 11, 1852 at Elroy, Illinois. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Davis. In 1868 she was married to Daniel J. Rees, Civil War veteran. To this union were born six children: Arch A. Rees, Oelwein; Cora E. Nelson, Waterloo, Iowa; Carrie E. Rees, deceased; Mrs. Maude M. Godner, Davenport, Iowa; George W. Rees, Oelwein; and John L. Rees also of Oelwein. In 1886 they moved to Iowa where they settled on a farm near Westgate, where Carrie E. passed away in 1890. A few months later the family moved to Oelwein, where her husband, Daniel J. Rees passed away in 1902, since that time she has made Oelwein her permanent home. Has been in failing health for the past ten years, and bedfast for the past three months, on May 20th she suffered a complete stroke of paralysis which caused her death at 4 am. She leaves to mourn her loss one brother, five children --- all of whom were at her bedside at the time of her death and many grand children and great grandchildren.

The last services were held from the Church of Christ May 22, Rev. W. T. Walker officiating. Interment at Woodlawn.
