Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Catholic church last Wednesday morning for Leonard Wells. Rev. Robert Cooney officiated and burial was in the Clermont Catholic cemetery.

Leonard Leroy Wells, son of Mrs. Josephine Wells an the late Joseph Wells, was born near Wadena on March 25, 1886. At the age of one year he came to Clermont, with his parents and received his education in the Clermont public school. He opened a shoe repair shop in Clermont about 20 years ago and continued in this work until about four weeks ago.

On July 3 he became seriously ill and was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital at New Hampton where on July 7 he submitted to a major operation. He passed to his eternal reward on July 24 at 6:35 am.

He is survived by his aged mother, four brothers and three sisters, George F. Wells of Bitley, Michigan, Ralph J. Wells of Ravenna, Ohio, John C. Wells of Comanche, Lee Wells of Clermont, Mrs. Fay Trammell of Ardmore, Okla., Mrs. Rosella Gutcher of Independence and Geneva Wells of West Union. His father preceded him in death 26 years ago.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Pvt. John Patrick Rafferty of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Wells of Ravenna, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. John C. Wells of Comanche; Mrs. Arthur Arend of Waterloo and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Louden of Oelwein.
