Graveside service were held at 1:30 p.m. December 11, 2007 at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, IA for
Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Light, 92 of Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Elgin, who died December 6, 2007. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Betty was born February 14, 1915, in Elgin, Iowa, the daughter of Melbert and Myrtle (Halstenson) Kohler. Betty graduated from Elgin High School and attended Upper Iowa University. She was united in marriage to Lyle A. Light on October 16, 1938, at West Union, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle and her parents.

Betty is survived by a daughter Letha (Robert) Hamill of Cedar Rapids, IA; two grandchildren, Rachel Hamill, Chicago, IL and Jessica (Christopher) Boone, Jersey City, NJ; a great-grandson, Owen Boone, Jersey City, NJ. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Selma (Robert) Wenger of Downers Grove, Il; as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Betty was active in her community. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Elgin, a charter member of the Elgin Progress Club, and enjoyed playing cards with many groups. She also had an interest in the Elgin Historical Society and loved to travel.

She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband. Lyle, in the electrical, heating and air conditioning business. She also worked as a docent, at Montauk in Clermont, IA. Betty had a love of antiques and history. She enjoyed antiquing trips with her daughter Letha.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, St. Luke’s Hospice and Village Ridge.
