Frances Brownell Day (1904-1991)

Arlington - Frances Manning Brownell was born November 5, 1904, on a farm near Stanley, to Grant S. and Mary Ada Manning Brownell. She spent her early childhood near Stanley. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1923.

On April 16, 1924, she was married to Arthur James Day. They farmed for two years near Riceville and for 13 years near Hazleton. In 1939, they purchased the farm two miles south of Arlington where she resided until her death.

Frances and Arthur were the parents of three children, Eleanor (Mrs. Glen) Burington, Fayette; Leonard, on the home farm at Arlington; and Dorothy (Mrs. Ray) Boehmke, Lone Tree. Arthur died on July 23, 1975.

Frances was an active member of the United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Southside Community Club.

She died Wednesday, December 5, (1991) , at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point at the age of 86. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 8, at the United Methodist Church in Arlington with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazelton.

Grandsons, Morse Burington, Dennis Burington, Willis Burington, Mark Boehmke, Brian Day, and David Day were casket bearers.

She is survived her three children, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and four sisters, Inez Day, Florence Clary, Ruth Eschen and Dorothy Metcalf.
