Monday services held for Gordon Ruroden

Funeral services for Gordon Ruroden, 78, were held in Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carl Stoldt officiating. Burial was in the West Union Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gordon died Thursday, June 13, 1996, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Sumner.

Gordon Gerhardt Ruroden was born May 6, 1918 to Gilbert and Gunelda (Stray) Ruroden in Clermont. He was baptized in June of 1918 at West Clermont Lutheran Church and was confirmed there at age 15.

He joined the U. S. Navy on Dec. 29, 1943 and served a tour of duty aboard the Battleship USS Mississippi.

Gordon was united in marriage to Betty Lorraine Knapp in West Union on Feb. 28, 1944. They became the parents of three children.

Gordon farmed in the West Union area and was a school bus driver for North Fayette Community Schools.

He had been a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church and then joined Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Betty; parents; and one brother, Emory.

Gordon is survived by three children, Harlan, Mesa, Ariz.; Mary Burgart, Sumner; and Susan Felder, Oelwein; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandson; a sister, Melvina Woodson, West Union; and two brothers, Floyd, Ossian, and Dale, West Union.
