"He was tired and needed rest", says death. William Lincoln whose serious illness we mentioned in our last, died at the home of his only son, J. H. Lincoln Wednesday morning, December 26th, 1894. Deceased was born July 25, 1815 in Huntershire, England. He came to America in 1861 and stayed in Ohio ten years thence to Michigan and from Michigan to Iowa in 1886 where he has since resided. The funeral ceremony took place on Thursday at 12:30 from the Union Church, where assembled many friends to attend the last sad rites of him who is now sleeping the sleep that knows no wakening. Soothing words of sympathy and condolence were offered to the bereaved son, brothers of whom, are two, Gilbert Lincoln of this vicinity and J. Lincoln of Michigan. All that was mortal of Wm. Lincoln was carried to the depot, and sent to Michigan, where he will be laid to rest by the side of his wife who preceded him to the other world years ago. The pall bearers were John Doctor, Amos Miller, Henry Powers, Jack Miller, George Baker and Chaunchey Briggs. His remains were followed to the depot by his son, grandson and great-grandson, "even unto the third and fourth generation". The son of the fourth generation was little Harry Lincoln, baby of William Jr. and Millie (Powers) Lincoln.
