Staff Sergeant Daryl Ruroden

Funeral services for Staff Sergeant Daryl Ruroden, 40, were held Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1984 at 1:30 p.m. at the Clermont Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Duane Berg officiating. The Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Gods Acres Cemetery at Clermont.

Daryl LeRoy Ruroden, son of Alvin and Irene (Halverson) Ruroden, was born November 25, 1943 at West Union, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, October 20 at the home of his sister, Bonnie, in Monona.

He was baptized at the West Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He was graduated from Postville High School in 1962 and entered the United States Marine Corps.

In 1967 he attended Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. and graduated from the McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science in New York City in 1971.

Daryl had served 14 years of active duty with the United States Marine Corps, including Vietnam. He was very dedicated and received the following medals: Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), Vietnam Service Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 awards) and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 519 in Monona.

Surviving are his mother, Irene of Monona, 3 sisters, Dixie (Mrs. Charles Dobbs) of Weeping Water, NE, Bonnie (Mrs. Frederick Heins) of Monona and Karen (Mrs. David Frame) of Elko, MN.; 3 nieces and 4 nephews.
