Mervin Reierson

Services for Mervin Reierson, 88, were Tuesday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m., Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. The Rev. Marshall E. Hahn officiated. Soloist was Arthur Amundson, with special music by the Luren Singers of Decorah. Casket Bearers were: David Reierson, Dean Reierson, Ron Reierson, Curt Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Doug Schrader, and Ron McCartney. Burial was in the Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mervin Clarion Reierson was born August 21, 1917, to Cornelius and Millie (Skarshaug) Reierson, on the farm southwest of Gunder in Marion Township, Clayton County, near Elgin. He died Saturday, April 1, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville.

He was baptized October 7, 1917 and confirmed August 14, 1932, both in the Marion Lutheran Church. He attended the Center School District No. 5, near his home.

June 4, 1943 Mervin married Lillian Loftsgard at Marion Lutheran, where he was a lifetime member. He sang in the church choir for 65 years, served on the church council, and in several other church offices.

He was a member of the Luren Singers of Decorah for many years. In 1983 he and Lillian enjoyed a trip with the Luren Singers to Norway and visited some of their relatives. They traveled with the group on a tour of the U.S. every summer. Mervin and Lillian also spent a few months in the winter in both Arizona and Texas.

Mervin was a farmer all of his life. He especially loved deer hunting with his friends and neighbors. Following their retirement from farming, they moved to Clermont in 1980 and continued to help others with farm work and repairing their machinery.

He is survived by his wife, two foster daughters, Rose (Arthur) Luckeroth Koepka of Crookston, MN, and Ruth (Rod) Luckeroth Westemeier of Independence; six foster grandchildren Brandon Stickley, Julie Good, and Shania, Jerod, Emma, and Luke Westemeier. Also surviving is his brother, Joe (Helen) Reierson, Elgin, two sisters-in-law, Florence (Lloyd) Reierson, Postville, and Edna (Kenneth) Anderson, Postville, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Martha (Tollefson) Reierson, a brother, Lloyd, a foster granddaughter, Sabrina Westemeier, and a nephew, Mark Reierson, who died in infancy.

Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
