Marie Reierson

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Reierson were held Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 2 p.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Paul Birkedal officiated. The organist was Lois Dummermuth and the soloist was Julie Andera. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Marie Ann (Martie) Reierson, the daughter of Louis and Louisa (Schneider) Martie, was born June 29, 1904 in Fayette County, Iowa. She died Friday, October 17, 1997 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. She was 93.

She was baptized and confirmed as an adult at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Marie attended the rural Sunny Dale School District No. 4 in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa.

September 14, 1927 she married Ole M. Reierson at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Ole had four young children by a previous marriage. Marie and Ole had six children of their own, two daughters and four sons. The couple farmed northeast of Elgin and later moved to Marie's home farm east of Elgin.

Marie was a good mother to this large family. She worked hard at being a homemaker, working in here large garden and canning the food for her family. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She also made quilts, afghans, doilies and other craft work.

She was employed at the Elgin canning factory in the 1950's, as well as for Hellum Produce. As busy as she was, she found time to entertain her family on holidays and birthdays. She loved to have them all come to her home. Visitors never left her house without first having some lunch. Marie dearly loved her grandchildren. She was active in church activities and enjoyed being with her friends and especially loved a good game of cards.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ole, who died in 1973, her brother, Fred Martie, two stepsons, Aphie and Orvin Reierson, two stepdaughters, Gladys Bruckner and husband, Bert and Bernice Vick and husband Melvin, two sons-in-law, Levi Molokken and Cecil Abel, one granddaughter, Cindy Abel and two step granddaughters, Mary Jane Bruckner and Mary Jane Vick Brandt.

Surviving are four sons, Glen Reierson and wife, Shirley of Elgin; Clarence Reierson and wife, Mavis of Walker; Donald Reierson of Elgin and Robert Reierson and wife, Mary of Postville; two daughters, Lydia Molokken of Clermont and Darlene Abel of Belle, Mo; 18 grandchildren, Julie Andera, Glenda (Al) Bodensteiner, Jeff (Carol) Reierson, Jackie (Rick) Trumm, Greg (Gayle) Reierson, Scott Reierson, Vickie (Kurt) Chicken, Lynn (Jeff) Madsen, Judy (Jay) Erb, Susan (Greg) Dudenhoeffer, Mike (Karen) Abel, Robin (Chris) Kjosa, Dawn Ondrashek, Don Jr. Reierson, Becky (Kenneth) Meyer, Betty (Leo) Storla, Marlene (Chet) Huffman and Earl Bruckner; 43 great grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Celia Wander of West Union and Lydia and her husband, Elmer Butikofer of Postville and a step daughter-in-law, Marian Reierson of Postville.

Marie was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ElCA. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville on October 18, 1990. The last few years she had been confined to a wheel chair and was able to take part in activities. The staff enjoyed visiting with Marie and enjoyed her good nature and hearty laugh. Marie especially enjoyed the children who came to visit.

Casket bearers were Lydia Molokken, Darlene Abel, Glen, Clarence, Donald and Robert Reierson.

Interment was in the East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery.
