Betty Mork died late Friday evening, Dec. 7, 2007, at Stoney Brook Village, West Union, after a brief illness.

Betty Elaine (Stanz) Mork was born March 25, 1927, to Gustav and Ilo (Nunamaker) Stanz near Pioneer in Humboldt County.

She was baptized in 1927 and confirmed in 1939 in the Lutheran faith.

Because her father's job with the railroad required frequent moves, Betty's family moved from Pioneer to Chelsea, S.D., when Betty was 7 and then to Ruthven when she was 13. The Stanzes moved to Ossian when she was 15.

Betty attended schools in Pioneer, Chelsea, S.D., Spencer and Ruthven, and graduated from Ossian High School in 1942.

Following graduation, she worked for Dr. Joseph Holtey.

On Aug. 1, 1948, Betty was united in marriage with Arlo Wayne Mork at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union. To this union 10 children were born.

The couple lived on their farm near West Union until 1958, when they moved into West Union. The Morks lived there for a year before returning to the farm, where they lived until moving to their home on Adams Street in West Union in 2000.

In addition to being a homemaker, Betty began working in the dietary department of the West Union Good Samaritan Center in 1982; after a year, she went to work at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, retiring on Dec. 1, 1996.

Betty was active in her church, where she was a member of the Women of the ELCA. She was in charge of preparing the Christmas boxes that have been sent from Zion Lutheran Church to those serving in the military.

Betty was also a member of the Neighborhood Study Club and North Country Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant son, Jeffrey, in 1949; a daughter, Marsha, in 2005; a great-grandson; and a brother, Carl Stanz.

She is survived by her husband, Arlo, of West Union; eight children, Alvin (Sharon) Mork of Houston, Texas, Mary (William) Lyster of Spencer, Joyce (William) Dunt of Sun Prairie, Wis., Brian (Jeanne) Mork of Verona, Wis., Ralph (Stephanie) Mork of Madison, Wis., Joan Mork Swan and Greta Mork, both of West Union, and John (Kimberly) Mork of Amery, Wis.

Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
