Ernest L. Anfinson 1927-2007

Funeral services for Ernest L. Anfinson, 80, of Eldorado were held Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Matthew Anfinson, Gregory Anfinson, Jeremy Howe, Shannan Anfinson, Eric Anfinson and Nicole Howe.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, handled the arrangements.

Ernest died of age-related causes at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.

Born Oct. 3, 1927, on the family farm near Ossian, Ernest Laverne Anfinson was the son of Otto and Thelma (Torkelson) Anfinson. He was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian.

Ernest graduated from Ossian High School in 1945.

On Dec. 11, 1949, he was united in marriage with Betty Schatz at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Four children were born to this union.

They had been engaged in farming for 43 years before retiring.

Ernest was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, active in Brotherhood, church council and other church activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant daughter, Gwendolyn Joy; and a brother, Wayne Anfinson.

Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Eldorado; two sons, Richard (Barb) Anfinson of Cedar Falls and Larry (Gayle) Anfinson of Waterloo; a daughter, Lynn (Duane) Mitchell of State Center; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include three brothers, Ahlert Anfinson of Decorah, Kermit (LaVonne) Anfinson and Kenny (Karlene) Anfinson, both of Ossian; 13 nieces and nephews.
