Services for Arthur "Art" Thompson, 80, were held Saturday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Vettrus officiating. Burial was in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home.
Arthur died Wednesday, June 12, 1996, in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis., after a heart attack.
Arthur Harold Thompson, son of Albert and Helen (Bergen) Thompson, was born Nov. 21, 1915 at Clermont. He was baptized on Aug. 13, 1916 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church.
On Feb. 17, 1942 Art was united in marriage to Pearl Irene Helgerson at the Bethany Lutheran Church. To this union were born four children.
They lived in Clermont until 1955 when they moved to the West Union area and purchased their farm east of West Union in 1962.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald, who died Nov. 14, 1968 in Vietnam; six brothers, Otto, Albert, Elmer, Floyd, Tilmer and Joseph; and two sisters, Marion and Gladys.
Art is survived by his wife, Pearl; two sons, Robert, Waterville; and Stan, Fairview, Okla.; one daughter, Nancy Sider, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Mueller, St. Olaf; Lillian Thorson, Clermont and Deloris Kamaus, West Union; a half-sister, Ellen Hagalie, West Union; and many nieces and nephews.Postville Herald newspaper clipping from my mother's obituary collection.
